37-year-old Chesterfield man charged after vehicle pursuit exceeding 100 mph in New Kent County

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 37-year-old Chesterfield County man has been charged with eluding law enforcement and reckless driving in New Kent County after a pursuit that exceeded 100 mph.

In the early morning on Sunday, June 1, a deputy with the New Kent County Sheriff's Office, monitoring Interstate 64 eastbound near mile marker 215 -- a mile from the Route 155 exit -- saw a car driving over 100 mph.

Deputies tried to pull the vehicle over, but the driver would not stop and continued on I-64. This led to a pursuit off the interstate, which continued down Eltham Road, through the Town of West Point, into King and Queen County and ended in Gloucester County.

Officials said the driver hit an embankment at the intersection of U.S. Highway 17 and Route 33. He then attempted to run away.

After a brief chase, the driver -- 37-year-old Brent Worley of Chesterfield County -- was taken into custody without further incident, with help from Virginia State Police.

Worley has been charged with the following:

  • Felony eluding law enforcement
  • Reckless driving by speed
  • Obstruction of justice
  • Driving on a revoked license

Worley is currently being held at the Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.

A court date is scheduled for later in the week of June 2 at New Kent County General District Court.
