Registration open for Richmond SPCA’s Compassion Unleashed Critter Camp

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Registration is open for the Richmond SPCA's Compassion Unleashed Critter Camp, with many educational week-long day camps available for children.

Registration for the Richmond SPCA's Compassion Unleashed Critter Camp opened on Monday, Feb. 10, offering a variety of week-long day camps hosted at its humane center from June through August for children to learn more about the shelter.

According to the Richmond SPCA, sessions open for registration include:

  • Sessions for younger elementary school campers -- rising first through third graders
    • Creative Cats: Campers will meet bottle-fed kittens, interact with friendly cats and create cat-inspired crafts and games.
    • Pawsome Pups: This week will be packed with fun games, crafts and opportunities to learn about working dogs with important careers.
    • Fur and Fun Academy: This full-day, week-long camp will combine the best of Creative Cats and Pawsome Pups
  • Sessions for older elementary school campers -- rising fourth through sixth graders
    • Future Vet Explorers: Campers will explore the world of animal medicine through engaging classroom lessons and hands-on activities with animals in Richmond SPCA's care. They will also learn how veterinary care plays a crucial role in an animal shelter.
    • Voices for Animals: Campers will dive into the world of animal welfare, learning about the Richmond SPCA's mission and how they can make a difference.
  • Sessions for middle school campers -- rising seventh through ninth graders
    • Advanced Vet Adventures: Designed for older campers who are passionate about animal medicine. Campers will work directly with animals in Richmond SPCA's care, gaining deeper insights into veterinary practices.
    • Kids & K9s: For campers who want to train their own dogs. Throughout the week, campers will attend training sessions with dogs, learning basic skills and tricks under the guidance of Richmond SPCA trainers.
