Bill to do away with registration decals effectively killed in Virginia Senate committee
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A new bill has been effectively killed by the Virginia Senate's Finance and Appropriations Committee after they voted to pass by it indefinitely.
The bill would have discontinued the requirement and issuance of decals displaying the expiration month and year of the motor vehicle being displayed on license plates.
According to the bill's online summary, it would also "remove the requirement for the Department of Motor Vehicles to issue appropriately designated license plates for motor vehicles held for rental."
The bill was introduced by Del. Terry Austin (R-Buena Vista) and was passed in the Virginia House in a 96-1 vote on Jan. 29.
The Virginia Senate's Finance and Appropriations Committee voted to pass by the bill indefinitely in a 10-5 vote on Wednesday, Feb. 12.
