Dominion Energy restores power to 70% of customers

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Electric companies are working around the clock to restore power to thousands of Central Virginians. Sunday night's snow storm brought down power lines and caused ice accumulation in several parts of Central Virginia. A spokesperson from Dominion Energy says this is the perfect recipe for power outages, that is why crews prepared days ahead. "We had crews staged in advance of the storm hitting," said Jeremy Slayton. "So that way, you know, as soon as it was safe to get out there and start restoring power, our crews were out there and restoring power for our customers." The Metro-Richmond area and Farmville were some of the hardest hit spots in the region. Once it was safe for crews to begin work, additional workers visited neighborhoods across Central Virginia to begin restoration efforts. "We know how hard it is to be without power, especially when the temperatures are going to drop below freezing. But our crews are out there working as quickly and safely as possible to make sure all of our customers power is restored," said Slayton. You can report a downed line by calling 866-DOM-HELP.
