Albemarle man dead after driver hit him, left him on the shoulder, according to police

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 40-year-old man has died after police say a driver hit him, then left him on the shoulder of an Albemarle County roadway.
Just before 5:30 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17, units with both the Albemarle County Police Department and Albemarle County Fire Rescue were called to the 900 block of Monacan Trail Road after receiving reports of a pedestrian in the shoulder of the roadway.
When they arrived, crews found 40-year-old Michael D. Venezian of Albemarle with life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined that he had been walking south along Monacan Trail Road, about half a mile from the nearby interstate, when a driver hit him. The driver then reportedly drove away.
Venezian was taken to a local hospital in critical condition, where he later died.

Officers are searching for any information about the driver involved in this incident. The vehicle they were driving may have damage to its front end, but no other information on what that vehicle looks like is available at this time.
Anyone with information that could help identify the vehicle or the involved suspect is asked to come forward.
