Environmental Impact Statement to be conducted for Powhite Parkway Project

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) for the Powhite Parkway Project is set to be conducted to evaluate improvements along Woolridge Road to Route 360 (Hull Street Road) in Chesterfield County.

The EIS will be conducted by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) to evaluate improvements that aim to enhance travel conditions as well as identify where the improvements should take place.

As the review process proceeds, the specific limits of the study will be refined -- but as of the time of reporting, the preliminary study area for the project has boundaries in the form of Route 288 (World War II Veterans Memorial Highway) to the east, Route 360 (Hull Street Road) to the south, Route 60 (Midlothian Turnpike) to the north and Moseley Road to the west, per VDOT.

Officials said the project aims to address the following needs regarding Woolridge Road to Hull Street Road:

  • Relieve congestion on existing roadways and at intersections within the study area
  • Improve regional connectivity and accessibility between Hull Street Road and Woolridge Road

A public hearing will be hosted by VDOT from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 9 at Cosby High School, located at 14300 Fox Club Parkway, for the purpose of:

  • Presenting the alternatives evaluated and to be documented in the draft EIS and the recommended preferred alternative
  • Providing an opportunity for comments
