Family announces death of Virginia Congressman Gerry Connolly

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Congressman Gerry Connolly (VA-11) has died, according to an announcement on social media by his family.

Previously, Connolly announced that he would not seek reelection in 2026 due to the return of his cancer, stating in a post on X on April 28, "After grueling treatments, we’ve learned that the cancer, while initially beaten back, has now returned.”

The statement from the Connolly family reads, in part:

It is with immense sadness that we share that our devoted and loving father, husband, brother, friend and public servant, Congressman Gerald E. Connolly, passed away peacefully at his home this morning surrounded by his family... Connolly Family
