Henrico County begins reconnection to Richmond water system
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County is reconnecting to Richmond's water distribution system after water main repairs required a disconnect on Monday evening.
The county announced that it was initiating a reconnection to Richmond's water system on Tuesday, June 3, after disconnecting on Monday, June 2, for repairs to a water main break at 7th and Canal streets in downtown Richmond.
As of Tuesday, June 3, the water main has been fixed.
The reconnection was started officially by the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) at 11 a.m. Officials said the process often takes several hours as it is designed to gradually transition the water system back to normal operations.
Water remains safe for residents to drink and use, and pressure should be normal, according to the county. Any residents experiencing issues are urged to call Public Utilities at 804-501-5025 (weekends/after hours) or 804-727-8700 (weekdays).
This reconnect comes after the county had to disconnect at around 10 p.m. on Sunday and again on Monday to repair the water main break, which was first discovered on Thursday, May 29, and reportedly caused low pressure throughout Henrico.
Henrico is still offering residents two drive-thru water distribution sites at Best Plaza, 1400 Best Plaza Drive, and Harvie Elementary School, 3401 Harvie Road -- although both will cease operations at 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
