Henrico Master Gardeners to host Pollinator Festival, Spring Plant Sale

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County Master Gardeners are hosting their annual Pollinator Festival and Spring Plant Sale in June.

Both events will take place at Deep Run Park and Recreation Center, which is located at 9900 Ridgefield Parkway, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 7.

The events are free to attend, and plants will be sold from Master Gardeners at discounted prices alongside floral arrangements and gently used gardening items, according to a county release.

Organizers said that around 3,000 potted plants are expected to be available, including 250 varieties of perennials, shrubs, trees, herbs and houseplants.

People will also have the chance to experience:

  • Educational displays
  • Informational demonstrations from environmental organizations and state and local government agencies
  • Pollinator displays
  • A photo booth
  • A plant clinic led by Master Gardeners
  • Children's activities coordinated by Junior Master Gardners
  • Live musical entertainment
  • Food trucks
  • A demonstration of vermiculture -- the cultivation and use of earthworms to enhance composting
  • A sharpening service for tools and knives

Henrico Master Gardeners act on behalf of the Henrico County Extension Office as volunteers and community educators, after receiving specialized training from Virginia Cooperative Extension in environmental horticulture.
