Hopewell residents may hear sirens, horns during emergency training exercise
HOPEWELL, Va. (WRIC) -- Hopewell residents may hear horns and sirens during a field training exercise on Wednesday.
From 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, Crater Regional HazMat and Hopewell EMS will partner with chemical manufacturer AdvanSix for a field training exercise.
During this time, residents may hear horns, sirens and alerts from both the Hopewell Emergency Notification System (HENS) and the city's AdvanSix facility, located at 905 E. Randolph Road.
The city advises residents that these sounds are part of the exercise and do not signal a real emergency.
"Please note that the alarms may be loud or disruptive, but this is a planned and controlled drill
to improve public safety response," the city said in a June 24 press release.

This drill is a continuation of joint emergency response training conducted in 2024. The county "aims to strengthen coordination and readiness in a manufacturing setting," according to the release.
