How are Democrats and Republicans feeling 100 days ahead of Election Day?

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Sunday marks 100 days until Election Day in Virginia, and both Republicans and Democrats say they feel good about their chances of winning in November.

“We feel encouraged,” Sen. Lamont Bagby (D-Henrico), Chairman of the Democratic Party of Virginia, told 8News.

“We’re feeling great,” Sen. Mark Peake (R-Lynchburg), Chairman of the Republican Party of Virginia, told 8News on Friday.

Both Peake and Bagby said over the next 100 days they’ll focus on refining their messages and reaching as many Virginians as possible.

“What we want to do is protect workers, we want to protect families, and we want to protect our public education systems, whether that is higher ed, or students at Pre-K, we want to make sure that we are delivering for Virginians on things that are important to Virginians,” Bagby explained.

“Commonsense versus nonsense, that really sums it up,” said Peake. “Pro-law enforcement, public safety, those are the messages. Energy, education, economic development, very much pro-energy.”

To reach voters, Bagby said Democrats will rely on their coordinated campaign.

“When we’re speaking to individuals at the door, it’s all four of them, it’s Abigail Spanberger, it’s Ghazala Hashmi, it’s Jay Jones, and it’s whoever’s running in that house seat,” said Bagby.

While Peake said Republicans are excited about their newly launched “GOP Victory Campaign.”

“We’ve got a list of voters who typically vote in presidential elections, but not state elections. We’re going to be working that list very hard to make sure they turn out,” Peake told 8News.

Election Day is November 4, with early voting beginning on September 19.
