According to a release from Nathan Heintschel, Dakota Barnathan was sent off in the 41st minute, leaving the Kickers down a man after he was given a red card following a collision with Charlotte's Omar Ciss. Charlotte took the lead in the 61st minute, as Juan Carlos Obregon Jr. converted his one-on-one chance with a through ball. Despite the advantage of the visitors, the Kickers outplayed Charlotte according to the stats, with 9 of 12 shots on target and 0.92 xG compared to Charlotte's 0.56 xG.
