Large, smokey vehicle fire caused delays on section of I-95 North in Hanover

HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Drivers experienced delays on a section of Interstate 95 North in Hanover County due to a vehicle fire on Sunday morning where traffic video captured large amounts of smoke filling the air. At around 10 a.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that the north right center lane, right lane and right shoulder were closed on I-95 in Hanover County near Sliding Hill Road due to a vehicle fire. According to Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a single-vehicle crash that caught on fire after it struck the guardrail on I-95 northbound in Hanover at around 9:45 a.m. on Sunday. State police said no injuries were reported. Photos and video captured by the Virginia Department of Transportation's traffic cameras show a large cloud of smoke filling the air due to the vehicle fire. At 10:25 a.m., the department reported that traffic backups were about 3 miles. By 12:30 p.m., the scene was reported clear and all lanes were reopened to traffic.
