Local tournament to honor Wyatt Fowler, raise funds for Midlothian High School

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from Amy Fowler on Tuesday to talk about an upcoming golf tournament honoring the memory of her son Wyatt and supporting Midlothian High School.

8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined by Amy as she discussed the purpose of the golf tournament and how it came to be.

Wyatt Fowler, Amy's son, was a football player at Midlothian High School who died in a crash on Dec. 30, 2023. In addition to keeping Wyatt's memory alive, the tournament also serves to raise money for a new addition to Midlothian High School.

"The golf tournament will basically benefit building a new weight room at Midlothian High School," Amy said. "The current weight room, with all of the teams, especially with football, has 100 players, and it's just not big enough, so this would be a second facility for them to have so everyone can get time in the weight room and help improve Midlothian sports."

When asked what Wyatt would think about this event if he were still here, Amy spoke about the impact he had on his fellow students.

"I think he would be very surprised at the impact he had in his short little 15 years," Amy said. "I was amazed at the amount of kids that reached out to me just telling me a story about how kind he was to them when they needed a friend, and I think he'd be really surprised to know that many people cared about him."

The golf tournament is being held at Brandermill Country Club at 3700 Brandermill Parkway on Monday, June 30. For registration and sponsorship information, email Autumn Redford at mabafootballparent@gmail.com.
