Petersburg hosts job fair every month for those looking for opportunities

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- The City of Petersburg hosted a job fair at the Petersburg Public Library on Wednesday, July 23, to provide information on job opportunities in the city.

On every third Wednesday of the month, anyone who is in need of work can stop by the second floor of the Petersburg Public Library to learn about job opportunities in the city.

The City of Petersburg collaborated with brands SNAP E & T (Employment and Training), Lego, Randstad and more to offer opportunities to recent graduates and other citizens who are interested.

Babette Hammond, the city's Human Resources Specialist, emphasized the need to fill in the positions that the city has as well as other companies.

Petersburg City Public Schools was in attendance for the event, as they are in search of teachers, substitutes, administrative assistants and more.

"We want young people, and everyone that has an interest to do public service, work private industry, not to overlook Petersburg. You don't have to leave Petersburg to realize real opportunity for you and your family here," Hammond said.

Every week, the Petersburg Public Library and the Virginia Career Centers offer walk-in resume and mock interview training to prepare for job fairs.

The next job fair at the Petersburg Public Library will be on Aug. 20.
