PHOTOS: Powhatan third graders learn about agriculture on ‘Farm Day’

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A group of third-graders in Powhatan County had the opportunity to learn about agriculture hands-on on Farm Day, a collaboration between the Virginia Cooperative Extension and Powhatan County Public Schools. Students learned from local professionals and volunteers about dairy cows, beekeeping, forestry, soil management and more topics related to agriculture during Farm Day, which was Thursday, Oct. 24. “Our community is incredibly fortunate to have so many members willing to share their knowledge of agriculture with our students,” said Libbey Kitten, of Powhatan County Public Schools. “Agriculture is such a vital part of life, yet many children don’t have the opportunity to learn about it firsthand. Farm Day is a great way to educate our students about the importance of agriculture.” More information about the work the Virginia Cooperative Extension does to educate Virginians about agriculture can be found on the agency's website.
