Powhatan County man sentenced to 105 years in prison for sex crimes with a minor with 95 years suspended

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Powhatan County man was sentenced to 105 years in prison for sex crimes with a minor.
Powhatan County Commonwealth’s Attorney, Robert Cerullo, announced Tuesday, May 13, that Joe Carter Washington, Jr. of Powhatan was sentenced on Friday, May 9, to 105 years with 95 years suspended, meaning Washington will serve 10 years of his sentence.
According to the Powhatan County Sheriff's Office, Washington, 76, previously pled guilty in the Powhatan County Circuit Court to two counts of sodomy of a minor and one count of indecent liberties with a minor while in a custodial role.
The sheriff's office said the offenses took place in 2020 and 2021, and that they investigated after the child disclosed the abuse in December 2023.
