Richmond’s Osprey Cam on the James River returns

Richmond’s Osprey Cam on the James River returns

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The famous Osprey Cam has returned for another season, showcasing the nesting activities of ospreys on the James River in Richmond from mid-March until October.

Friends of the James River Park and Terrain 360 have partnered this year to host this beloved live stream, according to the organization's website.

The cam has become a seasonal tradition, letting viewers watch the birds return to their nest, raise their young and eventually migrate.

Last April, Radford University set up a live viewing camera.

After missing last season, Friends of the James River Park have installed new and improved camera technology, according to its website. As a result, the images will reportedly be crystal clear and provide enhanced night vision for continuous viewing.

Ospreys are known for their striking white and brown plumage, yellow eyes and fishing skills. Each year, they migrate from South America in the winter to return to the James River in early spring, according to the Friends of the James River Park.

The organization said the bird-watching live stream serves as an educational resource on osprey behavior and environmental factors for schools, bird lovers and conservation organizations.

To watch the live stream and get in on the bird-watching action, go to the RVA Osprey Cam.
