Sinkhole closes eastbound lanes on Petersburg road

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A sinkhole resulted in the eastbound lanes of a Petersburg road to be closed on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Petersburg Bureau of Police.
As of 12:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 23, the Petersburg Bureau of Police announced in a social post that a sinkhole located in the 2100 block of E. Washington Street has closed all eastbound lanes.

Police urged people to avoid the area, and said that Richmond’s Department of Public Utilities (DPU) crews were at the scene.
Police say that there are road closure signs and detour signs being placed by the city.
