‘This could have been prevented’: Hanover Sheriff’s Office speaks on crash that hospitalized three teenagers
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Three teenagers are recovering from various injuries after a Sunday morning car crash in Hanover County sent all of them to the hospital -- but the Hanover County Sheriff's Office says this crash could have been much worse. “The number one factor for teen deaths is traffic-related crashes,” said Hanover Sergeant Steven Wills. “It's a national movement to try to educate teen drivers about the risk of speeding and other dangers associated with driving.” The crash took place just before 4 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, near the intersection of Blunts Ridge Road and Old Ridge Road in a rural part of Hanover. Wills said that his office can only reveal so much information about this crash right now, but told 8News that investigators do believe speed was a factor. There is currently no update on the status of the injuries of any of the teenagers. Wills said that he hopes parents can use it as a teaching moment to stress driving safety, potentially preventing more crashes like this one. “There are a lot of families, there are a lot of friends of these individuals, that are going to be affected by this -- just knowing their friend was involved in a serious crash," Wills said. "This is a great opportunity for you to sit down with your kids and share with them the potential consequences of their actions.” The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Hanover County Sheriff's Office.
