CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 25-year-old woman was arrested after a high-speed chase resulted in a crash that closed lanes on Interstate 95 in Chesterfield County Thursday afternoon.
A trooper with Virginia State Police (VSP) was attempting to pull over a vehicle at around 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 5, for traveling 89 mph in a posted 60 mph zone on northbound I-95 near W. Hundred Road.
Officials said the vehicle did not stop and "fled at a high rate of speed," resulting in a pursuit. While fleeing, the vehicle hit a minivan, which then hit a concrete barrier separating the lanes.
The initial vehicle continued driving northbound and eventually came to a stop after crashing near Coxendale Road, according to state police.
After resisting arrest, the troopers took the driver into custody. The driver, found to be a 25-year-old woman from New York, was then brought to a local hospital for the treatment of injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
The driver of the minivan was also taken to a local hospital to be evaluated, according to officials.
As of 1:51 p.m. on Thursday, the crash caused the left and center lanes of I-95 to close near Route 288, resulting in three miles of delays as reported by the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
