19-year-old driver dead after running off VA-288 and hitting train

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A driver is dead after his vehicle ran off VA-288 in Chesterfield County and crashed into a train late Friday evening.

At 10:41 p.m. on Friday, May 30, Virginia State Police arrived at the scene of a crash on VA-288 southbound near Chester Road.

State police learned that a 2024 Ford F-150 traveling south ran off the left side of the road and hit an embankment beyond the railroad tracks.

The driver -- 19-year-old David William Stanley -- died as a result of his injuries.

State police said Stanley was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
