2 killed in crash with parked tractor-trailer on I-295 in Prince George County
PRINCE GEORGE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Two people were killed in a crash with a parked tractor-trailer on the shoulder of Interstate 295 in Prince George County on Tuesday.
The crash occurred on I-295 South just north of the Oaklawn Boulevard exit at 6:22 a.m. on Nov. 25.
According to Virginia State Police, a tractor-trailer had become disabled and was parked on the right-side emergency shoulder when a 2014 Toyota Camry driving southbound at high speed went off on the right side of the road and hit the parked vehicle.
The driver and passenger of the Toyota died at the scene. They have not yet been identified by police.
"Speed is being looked at as a factor in the crash," a release from Virginia State Police reads.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was cited for not using emergency flashers or emergency triangles, according to police.
VDOT reported lanes had been reopened and the scene was cleared around 10:15 a.m.
Virginia State Police are continuing to investigate this incident.
