8News gets spring planting tips from Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News received some spring planting tips from a special guest with Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden on Wednesday morning.

Anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined by Danny Cox, Vice President of Horticulture at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden, as he demonstrated several of the planting tips live.

Cox spoke to the hosts about how drastic changes in temperatures, like the fluctuations Richmond has seen recently, can impact plants that go in the ground during spring.

"Fortunately, it wasn't so dramatic that those plants are in any danger, but it's a good idea to keep an eye on them," Cox said. "They might need a little bit of extra water, fertilizer coming into the summer.

Additionally, Cox provided resource ideas for viewers that might be new to planting -- including upcoming events at Lewis Ginter, library books and even local plant clubs.
