Albemarle to open cooling centers for relief from extreme heat
ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Albemarle County Cooling Centers will be open this weekend to help provide people with relief from extreme heat.
The following cooling centers will be open on Friday, July 25 and Saturday, July 26 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and will provide air-conditioned spaces as well as water:
- Yancey Community Center -- located at 7625 Porters Road in Esmont
- Greenwood Community Center -- located at 865 Greenwood Road in Crozet
Additionally, the lobbies of two County Office buildings, including one located at 401 McIntire Road and one at 1600 5th Street, are open to the public.
People can also head to several public swimming beaches throughout the county, including Chris Greene Lake Park, Mint Springs Valley Park or Walnut Creek Park, as fees will be waived on Friday and Saturday.
