Award-winning musical, ‘Waitress’ coming to Richmond this summer
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Repertory Theatre is bringing an all-new show to Richmond. "Waitress," an upcoming Tony-nominated musical featuring music from Grammy Award winner Sara Bareilles, will hit the stage this summer.
The award-winning musical will premiere on Saturday, June 21, and be at the November Theatre throughout the summer. The musical will conclude on Sunday, Aug. 3, marking the end of Virginia Rep's programming for the 2024-25 season.
“Waitress is a recipe for life with just the right ingredients: an appetizing score, a bittersweet book, and a happy ending,” said Virginia Repertory Theatre Artistic Director, Rick Hammerly, in a release on Wednesday, June 11.
"Waitress" follows Jenna, played by Emelie Faith Thompson, as an unsatisfied waitress who dreams of a better life in her small town. A nearby baking contest offers a chance to escape, and she takes an opportunity to follow her dreams, supporting her fellow servers, loyal customers and unexpected romance.
