Bell schedules changed for Powhatan County Public Schools in 2025-26

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Powhatan County Public Schools (PCPS) is changing its bell schedules for the 2025-26 school year in all schools in the county.
According to PCPS, the school board approved an adjustment to the bell schedules in the school division by adding 10 minutes to better accommodate transportation.
The new schedule for schools in Powhatan County during the 2025-26 school year will be as follows:

- Elementary Schools
- Drop-off: 8:25 a.m.
- Start time: 8:40 p.m.
- Dismissal: 3:30 p.m.
- Middle Schools
- Drop-off: 7:20 a.m.
- Start time: 7:35 p.m.
- Dismissal: 2:25 p.m.
- High Schools
- Drop-off: 7:25 a.m.
- Start time: 7:40 p.m.
- Dismissal: 2:30 p.m.
Additionally, Powhatan County students will begin the 2025-26 school year with staggered start dates to support students in key grade levels with the start of a new school year. Those are as follows:
- Aug. 18
- First day for preschoolers and kindergarteners with last names that begin with the letters A through M
- First day for 1st through 5th grades
- First day for 6th and 9th grades
- Aug. 19
- First day for preschoolers and kindergarteners with last names that begin with the letters N through Z
- First day of school for 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th grades
Families are encouraged to review the start dates and adjusted bell schedules to prepare for the approaching academic year.
