Boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of Louisa County following water main break
LOUISA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A boil water advisory remains in effect for parts of Louisa County after a pipe burst caused a water main break at the Northeast Creek Reservoir.
The break happened along Route 33 or Jefferson Highway according to Louisa County Water Authority officials.
Officials told 8News that at around 5 a.m., they received a low-level alarm notifying the tank level has reached a point where crews need to begin pumping treated water into the system.
Due to the amount of pressure, officials explained a small leak became a much bigger one which resulted in the pipe bursting.
The water main break was repaired around 2 p.m. However, a boil water advisory remains in effect for businesses and residents along Davis Highway, Jefferson Highway, and the Towns of Louisa and Mineral.
Some businesses have had to use bottled drinks to serve customers or shut down temporarily depending on the businesses need of running water.
The advisory has also had an impact on food services such as DoorDash. A driver, Adriene Embrey of Mineral explained the impact to 8News Wednesday evening.
"Like [at] Sheetz, you can't get a fountain drink from Sheetz until this water thing is done," Embrey said. "McDonald's is the same way — when I went in there to pick up an order, I noticed that they were using two-liters and bottled water."
Embrey told 8News the slow down is impacting her income as well as others who use the delivery service full-time.
"I know it's only supposed to be like a part-time type gig, but I like it, I use it for more than that," she said. "It helps with day-to-day expenses and, you know, food and stuff."
Three schools were dismissed early Wednesday morning due to the water main break--
Louisa County Middle School, Louisa County High School and Thomas Jefferson Elementary School.
School leaders have announced that water pressure is returning to school campuses, and they are hopeful operations will continue at regular hours for the rest of the week.
