Chesterfield Health District reminds people to stay up to date with respiratory vaccinations
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- This week marks National Influenza Vaccination Week, and Chesterfield Health District is encouraging people to stay up to date on immunizations to help protect their communities.
Health officials said most people get their flu shots in October in an attempt to stay safe throughout the season -- as they last for six months.
Although flu is typically seen in winter months, the health district said it can extend into spring, which emphasizes the importance of people being current on their respiratory immunizations, such as flu, RSV and COVID-19.
Flu vaccines are recommended for all residents of Virginia six months and older, per a health district release. The following data, from the Respiratory Immunization Dashboard, showcases how many individuals living in Chesterfield, Colonial Heights and Powhatan have gotten the 2025-2026 flu vaccine:
- Chesterfield -- 70,941 or 15%
- Colonial Heights -- 2,686 or 15%
- Powhatan -- 5,009 or 15%
People can contact the VDH Call Center at 877-829-4682 to get help with locating a vaccine provider or requesting immunization records.
For more information on immunization or to schedule an appointment at the Chesterfield Health District, people can call 804-748-1691.
