Chesterfield man accused of breaking into apartment, setting it on fire

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 47-year-old man is facing charges after fire officials say he broke into a Chesterfield County apartment and deliberately set it on fire.

At about 10:45 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 28, crews with Chesterfield County Fire and EMS were called to an apartment complex in the 3200 block of Tanners Way for the report of an apartment fire.

When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke coming from one of the apartments. They then located the fire inside a bedroom.

Crews were able to get the flames under control before 11:30 a.m., according to fire officials.

While the apartment itself was reportedly vacant, the damage from the fire impacted the tenant a floor below. One person was displaced.

It was initially reported that this fire was being investigated as suspicious in nature. On Friday, Aug. 29, fire officials confirmed that this fire was believed to have been deliberately set.

The suspected arsonist, 47-year-old Jecoby Anderson, of Chesterfield, has been charged with burning an occupied dwelling, as well as breaking and entering with intent to commit arson.
