Extra Mile Pediatrics 5K to return to Forrest Hill Park next weekend

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmonders are invited to walk the extra mile next weekend -- for a good cause.

Nonprofit organization Extra Mile Pediatrics announced that its 5K race will return to Richmond's Forrest Hill Park on April 11 for the third year. Organizer Jeff Mapp told Showcase host Melissa Chase that the fundraising event will help support their mission of bringing healthcare to kids in need in Central America.

"As we're doing so, we're also getting to know the community and learning some of the barriers they face to good health -- whether it's clean water, whether it's access to healthy foods -- and start to set up systems and programs that are addressing those things as we're providing the care," he said.

Registrations start at $35 for the race and $15 for the virtual race. Participants are also invited to post their race results between April 4 and April 17. Virtual participants who registered before March 22 will receive a race medal and have the option to purchase a race shirt.
