Chesterfield man charged in domestic incident after police chase ends on South Airport Drive in Henrico
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 52-year-old Chesterfield man is facing multiple charges in connection with a domestic assault incident after a police chase ended on South Airport Drive in Henrico County.
After 10 p.m. on Thursday, March 12, officers with the Chesterfield County Police Department responded to a reported domestic assault involving a weapon in the 7800 block of Providence Town Drive.
Officials said that a woman told police that her husband, identified as 52-year-old Daniel Taber, had assaulted her, brandished a gun at her and damaged her phone to prevent her from contacting police.
Taber, who lives in Chesterfield County, then took the gun and left the home in a vehicle.
Police said Taber was charged with malicious wounding, larceny of a firearm, being a felon in possession of a firearm, domestic assault, brandishing and preventing someone from summoning law enforcement.
During the early morning hours of Friday, March 13, police found Taber's vehicle.
Officers activated their emergency lights and sirens on their vehicles, and according to police, Taber did not stop. Officers continued to pursue Taber's vehicle from the 4000 block of Meadowdale Boulevard until it came to a stop on South Airport Drive at the Interstate 64 interchange.
The Henrico County Police Division and Virginia State Police personnel responded to assist Chesterfield Police at the scene.
Roads were closed in the area for a period, during which Henrico Police initially said officers were responding to a mental health-related call.
Police said Taber initially refused to leave his vehicle, but he was ultimately taken into custody and charged. He was taken to Chesterfield County Jail, where officers obtained warrants for him for felony eluding and driving with a revoked license in a DUI-related offense.
Officials continue to investigate. Anyone with information should contact Chesterfield County Police at 804-748-1251 or Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660 or through the P3 app.
