Chesterfield police ask additional victims to come forward after former teachers charged with child sex crimes

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Chesterfield County Police Department is asking for any additional victims to come forward after two former school teachers were arrested for alleged child sex crimes last week.

On July 22, 49-year-old Shaun Jason Adams of Petersburg -- who, at the time, was a teacher at Elizabeth Davis Middle School -- was arrested by the Colonial Heights Police Department and charged with one count of child sexual abuse material for allegedly taking photos of a juvenile in a movie theater restroom.

Following further investigation -- including a search warrant at Adams' residence -- he received 30 more child sex abuse charges.

Additionally, 33-year-old Richard Franklin Troshak, III, of Chesterfield County was identified as a second suspect and was arrested at his workplace, the Chester Early Childhood Learning Academy, on Friday, Aug. 22.

Troshak received 10 total charges -- eight counts of felony manufacturing child sex abuse material and two felony counts of indecent liberties with a child.

Court documents obtained by 8News outlined how Adams and Troshak -- who previously worked together at Tuckaway Daycare -- allegedly discussed and shared photos and videos of child sex abuse with one another.

A statement from Chesterfield County Public Schools' superintendent John Murray on Friday announced that both teachers would be "immediately terminated from employment with appropriate due process." Additionally, all Chester Early Childhood Learning Academy employees were to be reviewed, and the preschool's principal and assistant principal were placed on administrative leave.

In a release shared on Tuesday, Aug. 26, the Chesterfield County Police Department announced it was now the primary agency investigating Troshak for his roles in the alleged crimes.

"Chesterfield County Police are working in close partnership with Colonial Heights Police, Chesterfield County Public Schools, Chesterfield Child Protective Services, the Chesterfield Child Advocacy Center and the Chesterfield County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office to further the investigation and identify potential victims of Troshak," the release reads.

The police department is asking anyone who believes their child may have been a victim to call the county's emergency communications center at 804-748-1251.

Adams and Troshak are being held at Riverside Regional Jail without bond pending their next court appearance.
