Chesterfield woman goes without heat for two months

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Chesterfield woman asked property management at Rockwood Park Apartments to fix her heat two months ago and still doesn’t have a fix.

Moneesha Lambkin told 8News she moved to a bigger unit at Rockwood Park Apartments on November 15, 2025 to accommodate her family. Just a couple days later, she submitted her first maintenance request after realizing her heat wasn’t working.

“I was trying to figure out why the heat, the heater wasn't going up. And then I realized, oh, it's not working,” Lambkin said.

To keep her family warm during the winter months, she said she bought space heaters for her bedrooms and uses her oven to occasionally heat the living room. Although the two methods have been effective, firefighters warn using your oven to heat your home poses a carbon monoxide risk.

After submitting the request, Lambkin told 8News she followed up multiple times with property management but never received a completion date.

“I have tried. I've done everything that I could possibly do. I've gone through the channels. I did a service request. I've gone to corporate. I'm just tired at this point," Lambkin said.

8News contacted the property management team at Rockwood Park multiple times to ask about Lambkin’s concerns. Their team has yet to respond to the questions.

If you are a tenant and you believe your landlord isn’t making repairs in a timely manner, you do have rights.

What to do if you are waiting for repairs

  1. Notify your landlord in writing
  2. Give your landlord a reasonable amount of time to make repairs (14-30 days)
  3. File a tenant’s assertion

tenant’s assertion allows renters to pay their rent to the court until a judge steps in.
