Department of Justice to monitor polls in Henrico and Hanover counties on Election Day
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Department of Justice has announced that it plans to monitor compliance with federal voting laws in Henrico and Hanover counties on Election Day. The Justice Department enforces federal voting rights laws that protect the rights of eligible citizens to access the ballot. The department said it regularly deploys its staff to monitor compliance throughout the U.S. In addition to monitoring in Henrico and Hanover counties in Central Virginia, the department also plans to monitor the following localities in Northern Virginia: Loudoun County City of Manassas City of Manassas Park Prince William County Monitors will include personnel from the Civil Rights Division, other department divisions, U.S. Attorney's Offices and federal observers from the Office of Personnel Management. Anyone with questions about the Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) can call the department at 800-514-0301 or submit a complaint through the department's ADA website. Complaints regarding to disruptions should be reported to local election officials. Complaints related to violence, threats of violence or intimidation should be reported immediately to police by calling 911, then to the department.
