PHOTOS: The Corniest Fall Festival in Richmond

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Corniest Fall Festival Ever took place at Monroe Park this Saturday to kick off the fall season and help welcome a Broadway musical to the Altria Theater. The Corniest Fall Festival Ever was hosted by the City of Richmond Parks, Recreation and Community Facilities, Broadway In Richmond and the Altria Theater and took place at Monroe Park on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free event helped welcome the fall season as well as the Tony Award-winning, Broadway musical SHUCKED, which will be coming to Altria Theater on Oct. 29 and will play through Nov. 3. For more information about the event, visit this link. 8News spoke with Rebecca Phillips, Program Recreation Supervisor with the City of Richmond Parks and Rec, about why and how they got involved with an event like this. "We knew that SHUCKED was coming to town and it's the first time Richmond's had this particular Broadway show, so we were super excited about that," Phillips said. "We have Monroe Park right across from Altria, and Parks and Rec loves to activate our park system, get kids and families out, and people that may not come to this park very often and come check it out."
