Dinwiddie County secures $20,000 grant for tourism marketing

DINWIDDIE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Dinwiddie County received a $20,000 grant from the Virginia Corporation Grant to market tourism in the area.

The county received a grant from the Virginia Tourism Corporation's Marketing Organization Grant Program for a project, "Stayover in Dinwiddie."

According to a press release from the county, the project will feature tourism destinations, such as Virginia Motorsports Parks and other lodging options in the county, which encourages visitors to stay a weekend or longer in Dinwiddie County. The project will use multiple digital marketing strategies to spark local visitation and increase visitor spending through 2026.

“We are thrilled to receive this $20,000 grant from the Virginia Tourism Commission,” said
Stacey English, Director of Economic Development and Tourism for Dinwiddie County. “This
funding will significantly enhance our efforts to promote Dinwiddie as a must-visit
destination. From our rich history and family-friendly events to our thriving motorsports and
outdoor recreation, we truly have so much to offer."

The county said the grant programs are designed to combine state funds with local tourism campaigns, with local partners willing to contribute over $2.74 million to match the grant funds -- generating more than $4.76 million in marketing and event production centered on additional overnight stays in all nine GO Virginia destinations.

Local partners can include towns, cities and counties in Virginia, as well as chambers of commerce, destination marketing organizations, small businesses, museums and other attractions.

“Tourism is a unifying force that strengthens communities, fuels small businesses, and
supports jobs across the Commonwealth,” said Rita McClenny, President and CEO of
Virginia Tourism Corporation. “These grant programs empower our local partners to share
the stories, experiences, and destinations that make Virginia such a special place to visit. We
are proud to support this important work and to extend the impact of the Virginia is for
Lovers brand through these collaborative efforts.
