Dominion Energy crews continue power restoration efforts after storm in Central Virginia
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Restoration efforts continued after a Thursday storm left tens of thousands of Central Virginians without power.
According to the Dominion Energy website, more than 280,000 customers were affected by storms on Thursday, June 19.
Dominion Energy spokesperson Craig Carper said critical public infrastructures are the first places crews go for storm damage.
“We're restoring hospitals, public safety, police, fire, EMS and public schools,” Carper said.

Carper said the biggest problem crews face are downed trees, especially those that break on power lines.
While it might take some time, Carper said clean-up efforts go a lot smoother without lingering weather effects.
“We’re not in the winter, [so] we're not dealing with ice,” Carper said. “So those are challenges that can certainly slow down restoration when you're waiting for any kind of natural disaster situation [and] conditions to improve.”

Carper also advised customers not to try to remove trees themselves, and instead report storm damage by calling 1-866-DOMHELP or using the Dominion Energy app on a phone.
