Elderly man in critical condition after house fire in Henrico’s North side
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An elderly man is in critical condition after a house fire this morning in Henrico's North side. At 2:47 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, Henrico fire received a report of a structure fire at the 1700 block of Shewalt Drive near Hungary Road. According to Henrico Fire, the first crews arrived on the scene in less than three minutes and found black smoke coming from the roof of a tri-level single-family home. Fire crews immediately used rescue tactics and removed an elderly man from the home. Medics provided emergency life-saving care and took the man to a nearby hospital for treatment from smoke inhalation. A fire was discovered in the kitchen and crews worked to quickly put out the flames. The fire was marked under control at 3:45 a.m. No firefighters were injured. Henrico Fire believes the cause of the fire was accidental and cooking related. This situation is still being investigated by the Fire Marshal's Office.
