‘Finally’: Chesterfield father elated to find son’s case of proven child abuse at Henrico Doctor’s Hospital’s NICU has been reopened

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Dominique Hackey and his wife, Tori Hackey of Chesterfield County, are happy to know their son's case of child abuse at the Henrico Doctor's Hospital's neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) has now reopened. 8News initially broke the news to the Hackey family Monday, Dec. 30, after it was confirmed by the Henrico Commonwealth's Attorney, Shannon Taylor, that families involved in an ongoing investigation into the Henrico Doctor's Hospital's NICU were in contact with officials. Later that day, Henrico Police confirmed all incidents from 2023 had also been reopened. The Hackey family and Taylor confirmed to 8News the Hackeys officially received their official call of notification Tuesday, Dec. 31 from Taylor's assistant. "{The Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney's Office] are connecting our case with the most recent cases and very hopeful that we're going to find the person that did this and get justice for everybody," Dominique said. This update comes days after the public learned the Henrico Doctor's Hospital's NICU would not be accepting any additional admissions until further notice, after discovering three babies had "unexplainable fractures" in late November and December of 2024.  The hospital added these incident(s) were similar to an incident involving four babies in 2024, which 8News is now able to confirm Noah Hackey is one of those four babies. Along with the Hackeys' joy of finding their son's case had reopened, they also wondered why they did not know sooner as just days before. 8News had interviewed the family last week where they thought their son's case was closed. “We were told that we would be kept in the loop every step of the way, and it still feels like even a year later, we're still a step behind everybody else,” Hackey explained. 8News spoke with Taylor on this matter and she responded in a statement: To the extent that a family was not contacted prior to the news story breaking we certainly apologize, but to date, all families have been contacted and have been made aware of what’s been happening with the investigation. Shannon Taylor, Commonwealth’s Attorney, Henrico County "We want to make it clear that Noah didn't have a bone disease. It wasn't accidental. It wasn't from his birth," Hackey said. "Somebody did this to our son and we're going to find out who did this. The Hackeys told 8News they now feel a sense of relief after receiving a call from the Commonwealth's Attorney's office. "[The assistant to Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney Shannon Taylor] informed me today that I should not have any of those concerns that, you know, our son and other people's children, that they should be getting the justice that they deserve and that's truly the best news that I've heard all year." Hackey said. "[Noah] is technically our firstborn, but both of the boys [twins, Noah and Micah] are our legacy and I'll do anything to protect our legacy and I won't stop." This is a developing story, stay with 8News for the updates.
