HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond International Airport in Henrico County has reported several canceled and delayed flights due to winter weather on Wednesday, with some of its parking lots reaching full capacity.
According to a spokesperson for the airport, 18 flights have been canceled and three have been delayed for over an hour at the Richmond International Airport as of 11:15 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19 due to winter weather.
At 11:39 a.m. on Wednesday, the airport reported that its parking garages were full, including its hourly and daily sections. Travelers are advised to plan using economy parking as directed.
Officials said work to prepare for winter weather starts well before storms arrive and continues until the snow desk closes.
Various snow-response jobs are fulfilled by direct airport employees, airport contractors, airlines, airline contractors and more, according to the spokesperson. Direct airport employees work 12-hour shifts as part of a snow team.
Customers are advised to monitor flight status during periods of inclement weather and contact their airline or booking agent for options if a reschedule is necessary. Officials said, in many cases, airlines will rebook automatically.
