Former Henrico nurse found guilty of 9 charges for abusing babies in NICU
HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A Henrico Circuit Court judge found Erin Strotman guilty for all nine felony charges of child abuse after she pleaded no contest on all counts. Her conviction stems from incidents between 2022 and 2024 in which she injured nine babies while working in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Henrico Doctors' Hospital.
Before the judge's ruling on Thursday, Jan. 15, she was facing 20 charges for malicious wounding and felony child abuse.
After several babies within the hospital's NICU were found to have “unexplainable fractures,” multiple investigations were launched into how these babies were harmed.

Documents from the Virginia Board of Nursing described Strotman, 27, putting heavy pressure on babies’ legs and abdomens, squeezing them with “excessive force,” moving them around carelessly and lifting them while only holding their head.
“There’s been a lot of negotiation and we think that we are reaching a just, fair and reasonable resolution,” Strotman's attorney Jeffrey Everhart told 8News ahead of the plea hearing. “Both parties are giving up some things and both parties are ceding some things.”
Strotman will remain out on bond until her sentencing, which is scheduled for June 5. The Henrico Commonwealth Attorney has asked for Strotman to receive three years imprisonment as part of a plea agreement, but the judge will decide if her sentence is longer or shorter.
