Four educational history events coming to Powhatan

POWHATAN COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Four educational events will overview aspects of Powhatan County's history at the Pocahontas Landmark Center on select Wednesdays through November.

Hosted by Powhatan County Parks and Recreation, folks can learn about multiple facets of the county's history at the following four free Wednesday events, with each hosted from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the Pocahontas Landmark Center training room, located at 4290 Anderson Hwy.

On Wednesday, Sept. 17, attendees can learn about the history of moonshining in the county with local historian Billy Boelt.

On Wednesday, Oct. 1, "History of Powhatan County: An Overview by John Rothert" will be held for county residents and visitors.

On Wednesday, Oct. 8, folks can learn about African American history in the county with Andrew D. Snead, vice president of the Powhatan County NAACP.

On Wednesday, Nov. 5, Demetrius Venable, PhD, will tell the story of the origin of Pocahontas High School.
