Goochland County issues boil water advisory, following Henrico where some residents get their water from

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A boil water advisory announced on Wednesday, Jan. 9, is still in effect in Henrico County and Goochland County has now followed suit. Officials explained that the advisory was issued because the eastern part of Goochland gets its water from Henrico. Goochland County Administrator Vic Carpenter told 8News residents haven’t lost any water pressure at all and that there is no indication the water’s been compromised. He said the county went on the boil water advisory yesterday "out of an abundance of caution."   Henrico, on the other hand, is urging residents to conserve water as much as possible and canceled school for Friday, Jan. 10. "Henrico County is urging residents to limit their water use and remain patient as high demand is leading to temporary gaps in the county’s supplies of bottled water," Henrico County Public Relations Director Ben Sheppard said in a statement. Water was distributed at the following locations in Henrico County: The Eastern Government Center, located at 3820 Nine Mile Rd. The Eastern Henrico Recreation Center, located at 1440 N. Laburnum Ave. The Henrico Sports & Events Center, located at 1 All Star Blvd. The county said they also had limited supplies of bottled water at: Brookland Middle School, located at 9200 Lydell Dr. J.R. Tucker High School, located at 2910 N. Parham Rd. Wilder Middle School, located at 6900 Wilkinson Rd. Officials told 8News that Tuesday morning was the peak of Henrico County's water outage, leaving more than 24,000 without water. But the entire county, more than 100,000 people, have been impacted by the boil water advisory. In Goochland, the advisory has impacted roughly 2,000 residents in the eastern area of the county. Goochland set up a water distribution center earlier today for any residents with concerns about their water. Both counties are advising residents to follow the Virginia Department of Health’s recommendations for the boil water advisory.  But before the advisory can be lifted, the water must be tested twice with 24 hours between each test. If both tests are negative, the advisory can be lifted. "So that’s what’s being done right now, the water’s being tested," Carpenter said. "And hopefully tomorrow when the second one comes back showing a negative result, then the boil-water advisory will be lifted. An advisory is not the same thing as a notice. So, it’s just that the potential something could be there. There’s no indication anything is, but they do encourage that if you’re gonna be using water to drink, that you boil it." Carpenter said that, when it comes to the icy weather expected to hit Friday, Goochland County and its roads are ready for it.
