Goochland residents targeted by scammers impersonating Sheriff’s Office
GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Scammers impersonating Goochland County authorities are targeting residents with a jury duty-related phone scam, claiming they need to pay a fee to avoid arrest.
The Goochland County Sheriff's Office posted a scam alert on its Facebook page on Monday, May 12, after receiving multiple reports from residents about similar scam calls.
These calls involve scammers pretending they are with the sheriff's office and telling residents they have missed jury duty. The scammers then insist that the resident must pay a fee to avoid arrest and additional fines.
If you receive a call like this, it is a scam.
