Henrico County Commonwealth’s Attorney weighs in on investigation into Henrico Doctor’s Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Henrico County's Commonwealth's Attorney said her office is undertaking the ongoing investigation into the Henrico Doctor's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) with the highest priority while being deliberate, careful and cautious. "When we have victims like this, I mean, they are victims in the sense that there has been some injury, we have to do the absolute best job we can to make sure we can figure out how this happened," Taylor said. Henrico Doctor's Hospital took to its online site last week stating it would no longer be accepting admissions into its NICU after three babies were found with "unexplainable fractures" in November and December of this year. The hospital also stating these incidents are similar to an occurrence involving four babies in the summer of 2023. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Virginia Child Protective Services found child was abused in Henrico Neonatal Intensive Care Unit in 2023 "It is our position that the incidents from 2023 are also part of an ongoing investigation, alongside with these incidents from 2024," Taylor explained. "We are trying to determine whether or not there has been any criminal conduct. We are trying to determine whether or not there has been any negligence that would reach a criminal standard." Taylor could not answer many of the questions posed by 8News reporters as she told crews the matter is an ongoing investigation and one that is imperative to protect in the realms of integrity. 8News asked Taylor if charges have been filed and she said no and that her office is not going to rush this investigation but rather be purposeful and intentional.
