Henrico police investigate after firearm goes off at youth soccer game

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico Police are reminding the community of firearm safety after a firearm went off during a youth soccer game.

On Saturday, Sept. 27 at 10:07 a.m., Henrico County Police responded to Holman Middle School at 600 Concourse Boulevard for the report of a firearm violation.

According to County police and the initial investigation, during a youth soccer game a firearm fell out of a spectators bag and accidently discharged. At this time police say that there are no reported injuries or property damage.

Once officers arrived at the scene, they found "the parties involved and secured the firearm." According to police, the individual involved was licensed to carry the firearm at the time of the incident.

During this time, Henrico County Police is encouraging the community to practice safe and responsible forearm ownership "so that our community, young and old, can enjoy a safe environment to live and play."

Police stated that they will also coordinate with the YMCA and other local programs that use the county facility and grounds to discuss safety measures, "for those attending events to prevent incidents like this from happening again."

There is no word yet on the identity of the person involved in this incident as it is still under investigation.
