Henrico to see road closures next week for road improvement project

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Henrico County has announced that Sadler road will be closed between Innslake and Scotland starting Monday, Aug. 11 due to a road improvement project.

According to the county, the project is set to complete the following:

  • Improve and realign a 1.9 mile stretch of Sadler road between Dominion Boulevard and Cedar Forest Road, and will be widened with improved alignment.
  • The roadway will consist of two lanes with one in each direction with a center left turn lane, curb and gutter and improved drainage.
  • A shared pathway for for both pedestrians and bicyclist will be constructed on the East side of the road.
  • The segment Ireland Lane and Sadler Grove Road will be realigned.
  • Roundabouts were also proposed at the intersections of Sadler Road and Innslake Drive as well as Sadler Road and Sadler Grove Road.

The road closure is scheduled to remain in effect into the week of Sept. 8, in which crews will regrade the roadbed and prepare for connections to the newly realigned portion of Sadler road and the roundabout.

Due to the closure, the Department of Public Utilities (DPU) will be accelerating the construction which according to Henrico, could last up to five to eight weeks.

Traffic will be detoured around the work zone by, Dominion Boulevard, Innslake, Cox Road, Saddler Place, Sadler, Sadler Walk Lane and Glasgow Road.
