Henrico’s ‘Spread the Love’ Valentine’s Day campaign reaches thousands

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- In its sixth year, Henrico County's "Spread the Love" campaign has gotten thousands of homemade valentines into the hands of older residents throughout the area.

According to a county press release, nearly 5,000 valentines were collected to be shared with residents in local nursing homes and assisted living facilities this year -- a fraction of the 30,000 cards that have been distributed through the campaign since 2020.

"The activities directors for the facilities are very excited to be able to distribute them," said Ashlee Giles, the county's advocate for the aging, in the release. "They feel the community has really come through."

Each year, residents, groups and others throughout the community are invited by Henrico's Older Adult Services to create and donate cards prior to Valentine's Day.

County officials said that this time around, the cards came from participants in over three dozen groups, including schools, families and civic and professional organizations.
