Honor Juneteenth with ‘Living the Legacy’ stage play in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from two special guests on Monday to talk about the upcoming stage play "Living with Legacy" that offers people a chance to honor Juneteenth while supporting local artists.
8News anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined by Felicia Winston, founder and director of MIR Productions, and Antonio Bowman, a cast member with "Living the Legacy," to talk about how the production came to be.
"This stage play has been around for a few decades now," Winston said. "We've partnered with several organizations to put it on throughout the Richmond area, either in celebration of Black History Month or for Juneteenth."
Each year, the subtitle of the show is changed to reflect what the overall goal of the production is. This time around it is "Living the Legacy: Rise 2 Power With Purpose." Winston also discussed what that goal means.
"It means that we all step up within our communities," Winston said. "Not just for our children but for our entire communities, to be able to take our power back as a people, to know that we can impact our own communities in a positive way by just being active, by learning our history and knowing our place in life, by way of our legacies."
People can catch the play this Saturday, June 21, at Richmond Main Library Auditorium located at 101 E. Franklin Street. Seating begins at 1:30 p.m. and the show will start at 2 p.m.
